In Memoriam

Gone but NEVER forgotten!

Close Call (Amurath Baikal X Maid in Canada)

Close Call
(Amurath Baikal X Maid in Canada)
died November 26, 2004

Insh'allah, Billy!

It was better to have had the dance.

Billy will always be remembered as the "man of the barn".
He has left a great void there, as well as, in my heart,
but he has also raised the bar of excellence for me
and, for that, he will always be remembered.

Terri

I have hoped,
I have planned,
I have striven.
To the will I have added the deed.
The best that was in me, I've given.
But the Gods and the Fates did not heed.
I've dared, but reached only disaster.
I've battled, but broken my lance.
I am bruised by a pitiless master
that the weak and the timid call chance.
I'm drained, I'm bent and feel cheated
of all that youth urged me to win.
But name me not with the defeated.
Tomorrow, again I begin.

By a U.S. Reserve Champion Futurity Stallion and out of a daughter of a Canadian National Top Ten Stallion, this typey grey stallion was a mirror image of his sire, Amurath Baikal, a Bask son.  His own halter career was extensive and included the following:

Region 18 top five stallion
 Region 16 top five stallion
Eastern Canadian Breeders Champion Stallion
East Coast (New England) top five Stallion
 Undefeated Most Classic

He  showed the same potential  under saddle, going Eastern Canadian Breeders Top Five Western Pleasure in Milton, Ontario in 2002.  In 2004, he was Western Pleasure Champion in every show.  Judges predicted a great future at Regionals and Nationals.

His foals have come stamped with his incredible type with gorgeous heads, huge eyes, long, upright necks, short backs, and smooth, flat, lengthy croups.  They also have his bright, inquisitive and gentle nature.  These youngsters want to be in your back pocket.

Three B Kazim (Amurath Rashid X Dakeema)

Three B Kazim
(Amurath Rashid X Dakeema)

died October, 2005

2005 was difficult for many reasons.

Still mourning Close Call, we were further saddened by the loss in October of our Senior Stallion, Three B Kazim (Amurath Raschid x Dakeema) to old age and its attendant infirmities.  He was the horse that took us out of the mediocre and set us on the track to excellence in our breeding program.  His offspring garnered multiple wins and championships both locally and in Quebec and Ontario.  A number of them scored Eastern Canadian Breeders Championships and Top fives in purebred and partbred.

He was a versatile horse and showed in both Show Hack and Country English Pleasure.  In his later years, he embarked on a dressage career with Terri.  Kazim particularly loved this work.  He was incredibly intelligent and loved the challenge of this division, often memorizing the patterns and anticipating the different parts.  He loved to tease us all and was accomplished at unravelling his lead rope even if it was tied with several loops.  He loved to go on trail rides with his special person, Glen, and was always eager for the bend in the road ahead.

Kazim loved his mares and was possessive of them, challenging every upstart colt or stallion that dared to look at them.  He also loved little children and would stand with his head down, his eyes huge and soft, as they patted his neck and face.  He was, in all ways, a very special horse and we will always honour his memory.  His blood runs deep in our program.
